  1. Despite any law or offense, people continue to spit in Northern England, American South, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc… it’s an unhealthy practice of course but not life threatening for the public.

  2. Its not against the law, but the government has run campaigns in trying to get the locals not to spit.

This was in the time of SARS then spiting was thought to spend it.

  3. haha, this is the most rediculous joke I heard so far!
Mainland Chinese people are famouse for spitting everywhere whenever they want.

so do u think can it ,by any chance,be true that its againsting law to spit in Mainland China?

  4. Following SARS, the Chinese government launched a series of public campaigns to reduce spitting. But mostly this was just some posters, which you can still see in Shanghai. In Hong Kong, where SARS was suspected to originate, spitting is a fineable offense; I forget how much but it’s alot. There are signs around HK warning you of this law.

  5. In the year or two before the Beijing Olympic games, the government enacted a series of campaigns aimed at breaking habits that foreigners might find objectionable. One of these campaigns was against spitting. The campaign was entirely unsuccessful; I was in Beijing last summer and people were still spitting just as much as before.

Chinese people, especially the older generation and those from the country, believe it’s healthy to cough up phlegm and spit it out. They live a hella lot longer than Westerners do, so maybe there’s something to it.

  6. No, they spit in China. I think you are thinking of Singapore where they ban spitting and even chewing gum. There are some huge fines for violations!

  7. Not really. It’s just really unhygienic and a real eyesore, but it doesn’t really spread any disease, noe even SARS. This is because SARS was so rampant in countries like Singapore, where you don’t really see many people spitting.

  10. NO, only people in the following countries usually spit: in Britain, the US&A empire, Japan, India, the western world, russia empire and the south korea etc. Spitting does not matter because there are always germs or bacteria etc. live around you unless you live in outer space.

  11. it’s not what you do it’s how you do it… it was forbidden to spit during the Olympic Games but… do you know spitting is actually good for health?… just as i said, what matters is the way you do it… there are special bins for spitting and it isn’t necessary to produce a loud sound during the process… as for those bins… well, the world is balanced so there should be a place for viruses to live, right? :P
