Jade Rat asked:

As many of you know, on March 14th. 2005 the 10th National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China passed the “Anti-Secession Law “.

This law, authorizes the PLA (People’s liberation army) to attack any part of China that declares Independence.
This is mainly focused on Taiwan, who seeks to officially declare Independence from Communist China.

America currently has a defense treaty with Taiwan, in witch it promises to defend Taiwan from aggressive action.

Will America honor this agreement, if China declares war on ROC?

If so, would this invoke NATO, as a member of it’s alliance is at war?
This is a serous question- if you can not refrain from childish remarks ‘D M’ please do not comment.
The PRC has repeatedly threatened to invade if Taiwan ever declares formal independence, and has sought to intimidate voters in Taiwan through activities such as test-firing missiles across Taiwan’s northern coast just before the 1996 elections and at times when subjects such as constitutional reform have been discussed.

The missiles exploded just 12 miles from Taiwan’s largest trading ports.
But what about countries that can not defend themselves, that are friendly to America and the West Bender?

We can’t just leave Taiwan to it’s fate- they need us, America just isn’t the type of nation to refuse to help those in need.
Besides, Taiwan is important to the regional sphear of influence- if China annexes Taiwan, Japan will no longer be the dominant Asian political power in Asia- Communist China will be.

This could be history repeating itself- it’s 1934 all over again, China is Germany and it wants to anax countries that where once part of China.

Taiwan, north Vietnam, Tibet- we can’t win though appeasement, Chamberlain taught us that.
@cheekiem

Help-via protecting from a foreign military power- not solve it’s political structure.

China and Russia also Vetos anything America brings to the table, if it wasn’t for them Darfur would be taken care of.

America is only one country- it can’t solve every issue in the world on it’s own.

Taiwan is internationally recognized as a legitimate, and independent nation by every country excluding China.

Where do you pull that it’s part of China?

Taiwan was once part of Nationalist China, but it dissolved, and what remained fled to Taiwan.

  6. The recent election in Taiwan showed that the public doesn’t want a needless conflict with China.
China has shown themselves to be will to go with the status quo as long as Taiwan doesn’t do anything public to embarrass them.
The public overwhelmingly just elected the opposition party which seeks dialogue with China, rather than conflict.
Thank God they did. They may have prevented WWIII.

  7. The United States has a mutual defense treaty with Taiwan. However, those treaties are mutual in name only. We need to cancel them. I don’t want us going to war in defense of any country other than perhaps Canada and Australia. I include the Aussies because they are the only country that has remained an American ally in every conflict we’ve been in.

Edit: I won’t fault NATO for not wanting to get involved in Iraq. However, the fact that they are unwilling to make a greater commitment to our effort in Afghanistan. a country that aided, abetted, harbored and assisted the terrorist group that attacked this country on 9/11 shows me that the only Europeans have NATO is to drag us into a European conflict. The socialists in Europe should disband their Armies and appoint a Secretary of Surrender who would carry white flag in the event of an invasion.

  8. America wouldn’t dare go to war with China it is in America’s best interest to proceed with China diplomatically. China is the sleeping giant and is the envy of the world with economic policy and progress while America is stumbling into an economic recession due to the war in in Iraq. China would wipe Taiwan and America off the face of the Earth if Bush ever declared war on China!!! But China are alot more intelligent then that then to start war it couldn’t finish.
The Taiwanese are insane and were testing nuclear bombs which could wipe us all off the face of the planet and were threatening China in the first place. If a neighbouring nation near America were testing nuclear bombs America would not like it, hell they didn’t like Saddam having weapons of mass destruction and he’s on the other side of the world Oh that’s right he didn’t have any but wasn’t that the reason America went to war in the first place!?! And if America cared about saving nations why aren’t they in Darfur helping the Africans??? You know nothing buddy about foreign policy and how it works and neither does bush!!!
why don’t you join the forces if you’re so passionate about it??? you’d be to chicken s#%t too!!!! you sit there and comment you have no idea what it’s like to be in a real war!!

“We can’t just leave Taiwan to it’s fate- they need us, America just isn’t the type of nation to refuse to help those in need”

There are many countries out there that America (and the world) has left to fend for itself. Most of the countries in eastern europe battled it out amongst themselves during the 1990s. all the things that happen in africa. Where is america? where is the world?

I don’t think china will do anything to taiwan in the near future…they have international focus on them with the olympics….maybe after that, who knows.

  11. U mention all the ifs ?? China is China including Taiwan, the whole word has accepted ? do you have a problem ? no I guess// dont try to bring the NATO or United states to be the police in this whole world, people like you need to educate your self rather than interfere with the Chinese internal problem, China will discipline people who apposes them within their own country, mind your own Biz
