  1. Yes we do have a right to reproduce. If we can remain a developed country our birthrate will stay low. China can do what China wants. They have many times more people than us on about the same area of land as us.

  2. unfortunately yes. i think we should have a test before just any moron can raise a child. the irony is that all the smart people know that having more than one kid is irresponsible and all the stupid people keep breeding and draining our resources….

  3. I consider whatever humans can do their right.

It is the unfortunate self-annointed, self-appointed province of all governments — be they labeled liberal OR conservative — to create all kinds of limits to human activity, which are artificial, so that they can license and sell back to people their rights as a cash fee-paid “privilege”. This is the way the government creates revenue out of thin air — revenue generated out of no good or service offered.

    It’s a dirty racket.

  6. Wow. I can’t beieve you even asked this question…Of course we do. Whether you want 15 kids or 1 is your choice. China needs to fix far too many things. This is just one of many issues they have.

  7. Yes you do

I believe the one child policy is a good thing. If it was not in place, then China would have far too many people in it, and would not be able to sustain itself. It would not be able to grow or even buy the food for them, build the housing, or employ many many people.

Personally i think it should be rolled out around the world. If everyone consumed the same number of resources as the average American, we would need four Earths to provide the resources. We are on borrowed time, in an unsustainable world, where we physically cannot grow enough food to feed everyone, and are running out of usable space, so have to rip down highly important ecosystems such as the rain forest, causing further desertification.

Look at all the problems of the world, and nearly all of them are due to, or made worse by, over-population of our planet.

  8. That right is not covered in our constitution because it is a fundamental right given to us by God, Mother Nature or however you wish to express it. It is one of the main purposes of life, procreation.

Our constitution does give us the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness so it could be argued that it is included under these provisions.

I think the China law is inhumane. If everyone disobeyed it there would be nothing the government could do. Look at the people who are now childless because of this stupid, ignorant law.

  9. Oh dear little grasshopper, you poor poor thing. No American has the constitutional right to reproduce. That is a God given right and a law of nature. The Constitution only guarantees those rights. Dont learn from government employees, they will educate you incorrectly. Do yourself a favor and transfer to a private school, and learn what is real.

    best of luck little grasshopper.

  10. Under the constitution we are not given this right absolutely. There has never been a federal statute but many states used to have eugenic laws and compulsory sterilization laws that stood up in the Supreme Court. Before WWII there was support for this kind of legislation. Nearly all of these laws don’t exist anymore though.

The China situation is odd. It’s typical that Chinese government is the bad guy and the people are being unjustly oppressed. In the one child situation the government is doing the right thing and the people are downright evil. The one child policy has led to a holocaust of baby girls.
Consequently the Chinese population has developed a significant gap between men and women.

The world population is close to 6.7 billion people today. Global warming is not going to be the problem in 50 years. Food is going to be the issue. The population was only 4 billion in 1974. There are more people alive at this moment than all of human history combined up until 1900.

I think the Chinese government is doing the right thing considering their situation.

  11. People in this country have taken it too far for the most part. There is absolutely NO reason for couples to have 6, 8, 10 or more children. We are already overpopulated as it is. The people having that many children are selfish. Period. What is wrong with just one child? I mean, do the math. A couple has four kids. Thise four kids each have four more. And so on. The numbers get to be a bit out of control after just a few generations have gone by. And that is exactly what we are seeing in the country, and in world today. There are WAY too many people. We cannot survive much longer at this rate. I agree with the one child law.

  12. We don’t have a constitutional right to reproduce we have an obligation to reproduce.

If you think this is a strange thing to say then I suggest you read America Alone by Mark Steyn. Because of the falling birthrate in the industrialized nations the demographics of many countries will be quite different in the future. For example, if the birthrate does not exceed 2 per family then the following generations will be depleted. If the death rate exceeds the birthrate there is a big problem. Germany faces extinction as a country in 50 years if their birthrate does not increase.

On the other hand, muslims living in Europe, Britain, for sure, are having a lot of children. The Brits are decreasing and the muslims in Britain are increasing…..

You can figure out what the problem in Europe is going to be over the next 25-50 years.

It is my information that China has abandoned the one child law mainly because female babies were being aborted and the ratio of girls to boys was going to be endangered and the men would not find women to marry.

This is a big problem for the western world – muslims will sooner than you might think outnumber the rest of us if we don’t do something about it.

  13. One child law in China is stupid.

Original question: No. There is no constitutional right to reproduce. However, there is no law that prohibits your reproduction.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are not mentioned in the Constitution. They are mentioned in the Declaration of Independence.
