honeycomb12345@yahoo.com asked:
Other countries have laws that protect companion animals such as dogs and cats. Why do the chinese particpate in the torturous dog and cat fur trade, animal olympics, killing of 50,000 dogs very inhumanely beating them in the street etc. Please educate me why such tortures are practiced in china and other asian countries without any laws to protect our best friends! Thank you.
Wendy: I don’t eat pork any meat. I am a vegan. This is not a question regarding food. This is a question regarding chinese skinning animals alive and mass killing of 50,000 dogs-NOT FOOD QUESTION. Thank you.
It is a lower priority than human rights, another area in which the Chinese government is deficient.

they are not considered companions there. they treat them as we treat our other animals. cows, chickens etc.

Let me put it this way. It is illegal to eat dogs and cats in America. These laws were specifically targetted against asians. On the other hand, it is perfectly legal for us to kill Horses for food and sell it to the French to eat. Tell me is it ok For us to torture and Kill Horses, Is it OK to have sports involving this companion animal. Isn’t it discriminatory to target Chinese in your complaint when There are other ethnicities , including our own that does the same.

China has other priorities, culturally speaking. If you don’t like it, then don’t support it by buying their products.

They’re a delicacy. Part of the food chain.

it is not a prioroty , and it’s all about their culture … they eat what we consider to be our pets.
There is fur trade right here in America as well.

1. China have the most population in the world which makes it harder to control than other country. Having human rights law like western country will turn it into chaos…so forget about animal rights laws.
2. Protecting endangered specis is more important.
3. Dogs and cats are still food on the table.
4. Law is to protect human and not animals.
5. They rather use the budget to feed and educate poor people.
For an example, are US going to put a Senator behind the bar for hitting his dog?

Culturally, most Chinese people do not view animals as sympathetically as we do, and aren’t as concerned about their pain. Just like how we, for the most part, don’t view insects as sympathetically as Buddhists do or care about THEIR pain.
It’s just the way people are brought up. Even here there are some people who care about animals, and some people who don’t. But compared to most countries, Americans care alot about animals. It isn’t that unusual for a country to have very few or no animal protection laws… alot of people in the world don’t really think about that sort of think.

America might not kill mass amounts of cats to clean up our cities, but our value of animals isn’t that high either. Think of all the animals used in product testing and for scientific experiments. I saw a picture of a beagle with a hole cut in its neck so cigarette smoke could be constantly pumped in to test the effects of lung cancer. And America participates in the fur trade as well by buying it when the animal has been treated inhumanely. And look at the food we eat (well not me because meat is gross), but how humane is it to hang live animals by their feet, let all the blood rush to their heads, and then slit their throats so they bleed to death? Why should we treat dogs and cats better then pigs and chickens? We don’t feel bad when they die. America loves pets, while other countries don’t place as high of a value on them. Some countries worship cows and we treat them like s.hit. It all depends.

Had a pork chop lately??
Were you aware that other cultures believe pork to be unclean, or prohibited? We are violating THEIR standards, by killing and eating certain things.
Do I agree that it is wrong to beat dogs/cats to death? Absolutely. What I also understand is that each country sets it’s standards according to their laws and cultural values.
I am proud of being an American.. but I also know that I cannot always expect other countries to accept things that we may take for granted.
edit-
you still miss my point. Your dietary OR cultural choices are yours. We have no right to impose our standards on other countries.
