  2. The most effective way to reduce the birth rate is programs that promote equal rights for women and to reduce the child mortality rate. If women are confident that their children will survive, most do not want to have more than 2. The fertility rate has fallen in India to only a little over replacement level and is expected to decline even more. China is already below replacement level. The problem of overpopulation was recognized over 50 years ago, and governments and international agencies have program to control population growth since the 60’s. They have been very successful, and only a few scattered countries and Africa still have high birth rates.

  3. Well i wud say we have to firstly eradicate poverty and provide employment oppurtunities to the people..
People especially in Bihar and Uttar pradesh are illiterate
when they give birth to a girl baby..they go on producing babies till they get a male son..you can imagine people having more than 12 kids :S in this way the population is rapidly increasing
Maybe i am wrong…but…I thought of making a law in which a family shud have not more than two kids…in this way we may atleast control to a little extent…

  4. Public information campaigns, combined with more readily available and safe birth-control options – would probably be the the most effective means, aside from passing and enforcing population control laws.

Somehow, the public has to accept the idea that overpopulation IS a reality – and a very HARMFUL reality. While men think that getting a woman pregnant is a sign of virility and masculinity, and while women think it is their born duty to produce babies like cogs off an assembly line, there will be NO effective means of controlling excessive population growth.

Something else that must be done is to rein in the anti-birth control and anti-abortion special interests. While each couple has a right to live by their own standards, no one should interfere with someone else’s right to do the same.
Couples must be made to realize that they have options that will STILL allow them to live strong healthy and enjoyable sex lives with each other WITHOUT overpopulating their own family units and the world around them – and they should NOT be condemned by their local cultures for using those options!
