They grow coffee in China? I didn’t know that.

If I were you I would not put simply green in it. Try baking soda or peroxide to scrub it. Then just make sure you rinse it out well.

don’t use simply green – try baking soda in hot water or buy vinegar (99 cents)

bleach, dilute it with water and run it through. run fresh water afterwards to rinse it out

I would never use a cleaning solvent on a coffee maker but if you do it & don’t have any adverse side effects, let us know. & How hard is it to pick up vinegar at the grocery store ?
Comment by kate — August 21, 2008 @ 3:32 am
No No No- don’t use simple green. The odor will remain even if the chemical doesn’t. Why wouldn’t you just use vinegar- wait until you get to a store? You can get small bottles for less than 0.70.

Since the coffee doesn’t go through the coffeemaker itself all you need to do is clean the basket and carafe real well. Use a little bleach on both and then wash with your regular dish soap. Maybe wipe off the area just above the basket where the hot water comes out with a paper towel. And that’s it- you’re all set.

Don’t run any chemicals through it that you wouldn’t want to drink. My advice is break down and go buy some vinegar or you might be buying a new coffee pot.
You could use crushed ice and salt to clean out the carafe like the restaurants do. If you have baking soda you might try baking soda and hot water to clean out the basket(don’t run it through the coffee maker itself). Good luck.
No if it’s that bad you can keep it or give it to a neighbor that you really don’t like much.

baking soda works great rinse well no after taste

Talkingdonkey is right. coffee filter holder and carafe are the only things that need cleaning. Bleach and soapy water should do it. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT put baking soda into your coffee maker itself. It will blow up!

WTF is simple green??? I am sorry your coffee tastes like a_ss do you want me to come over and make you feel better i am sure you would forget all about your coffee!!
Comment by Interested Fish — August 29, 2008 @ 9:17 pm
here is what we had to do in resturants
1.put ice in the pot
2.pour salt in it
3. squeeze lemon then shake a few time
for the coffee maker it’s self
1. if its really bad take it apart and manually clean in hot water
2..go buy coffee maker cleaner..in the isle with coffee
3..go to the dollar store and buy a new one for $10 or to a garage sale or salvation army or good will
4..dont put no cleaner like simple green in it..it will for ever tast like it..
5..try boiling hot water and pouring down it..
if you lived near me i could give you one…but im really good friends with santa

Do you have any baking soda? Scrub out what you can see. I’d hesitate to make a solution and run it through the machine, but if you are desperate……………..

try cascade, dish washer detergent or soak it over night in poleydent cleaner for false teath, (the tablers). it works well. borrow it from someone that has false teeth. lol….

That’s quite a simple problem. Use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Duo. It has soft, blue foam as an absorbent layer and a white eraser for scrubbing soils or stains. Here’s a good site for product tips and details.

I have used bleach in mine. Mix a small amount with water, just don’t forget to run thru 2 pots of plain water afterward
