  1. Possibly because they have the most experience with their food and cooking from their own culture and ingredients.

If you are going to stop them from hiring people they know and who speak their own language in the kitchen you would also have to stop all the mom and pop operations that employ their own family.
It is done everwhere, just with race it is more visible.
Funny my dad – a ukrainian chef worked in a Chinese restaurant and they really liked him.

  2. First Chinese and Mexicans are not a race but an ethnic group.

Second I have seen Chinese restaurants who hired whites, Mauritius people.

Third there is somebody in my class who is a Bulgarian who works for a Mexican restaurant, and I have seen other white people working for Mexican restaurants.

  3. i dont think alot of it has a lot to do wit them hating other race.. but it is easier to communicate with ur own race.. especially for the chinese if you havent noticed.. that they do talk alout in chinese when giving orders to each other.. its just easier for them to talk in there own language then to talk english all the time for someone elses benefit.. alsoo it could be because they rather not take time in teaching someone how to cook there food when they can just get it done.. all together it is a easier..

  4. A lot of the Chinese restaurants in L.A. have Latino’s cooking the food. I don’t think they hire their own race from what I’ve seen. I see alot of Latino’s in Asian markets and businesses all the time. Maybe they hire them because they are hard workers.

  5. There are a few reasons for this and it depends on the state they are in.

    1) In most cases the owners of said places are Mexican (or Chinese) and obviously so is their family and in most cases it is their family that works there. Which is not a big deal considering that whites/others do the same thing.

    2) In many cases the various workers speak limited english so they want to hire people that speak their native language.

    3) In many cases (especially if it is an Asian place) they can say that the staff is part of the over all theme of the restaurant. For example if it was a chinese place and they had all kinds of various waiters it might throw off the theme of the place.

    4) In terms of the law this would be almost impossible to prove because you (as a white/other person) would have to prove that the place in question specifically did not hire you because you are white. In other words you would have to catch them in the act of stating that they do not hire white people etc.

  7. They are meeting their quota while not having to hire “affirmative action” employees from the work ethic point of view. In China work, not money, is an exalted quality in a person. I have some Chinese and Mexican friends: none of them have ever used the term “burger flipper.” If hiring, I would actively seek out either of these ethnic groups. Reasoning: they will work!

  8. There are 2 Dominican teens working in the Chinese restaurant where I live, so they don’t always hire people from their own country.
They do prefer to hire people from their country because most of those restaurants are usually small family businesses, so they hire family members (who are also less likely to steal from the register).
They can probably get around discrimination laws by requiring that their employees are fluent in Chinese or in Spanish. It is perfectly legal to open a position for somebody who is bilingual, if that’s what your business needs. Also, it makes communication much faster, especially if one of the owners isn’t completely fluent in English.
Some would say that they are also familiar with the dishes, but I’m not sure if that’s correct- I’ve been both to China and Mexico, and real Chinese and Mexican food are nothing like the food they serve in American restaurants.

  10. Because are laws only apply to white and black “Americans” who were born here. If your from another country and live in America you have more rights than Amercians. We can all thank our wonderful goverment for this.

  11. What are you talking about?

In restaurants, I’ve seen workers from all races.

However, I guess it just depends upon the size of the restaurant and whether it’s all family working or they hire non-family members.
