My in-laws give me the impression that I am suppose to pay for all the dinners when we go out to eat? Is this a normal Chinese custom?

Are Chinese companies beginning to act the same as American companies abroad?
But some Laotian farmers are losing their ancestral lands or being forced to become wage workers on what were once their fields. Chinese companies are accused of getting rubber concessions from officials and not compensating farmers. They are also accused of violating laws, human rights and the environment, under conditions described by experts as “anarchic.”
“The Chinese companies in the north are a bunch of thugs,” says Charles Alton, a consultant in agronomy for international agencies in Laos. However, Alton says, the “unpoliced, unregulated situation” in northern Laos is ripe for exploitation.

What sort of gift would be nice appropriate for a young Chinese woman?
I am being picked up at the Beijiing airport by the daughter of my father in law’s friend in China. She is giving me a ride to my hotel as a favor for her father and I know it is a couple hours out of her way. I have never met her but I know she is in her late 20’s and is fairly well off, she works in marketing for IBM. Any ideas for a gift to bring her from America? Half the stuff I look at is made in China so I would feel kind of rude giving her something she could pick up in a local market for cheap.

Why aren’t these Chinese birth laws forced on Africa?
Think of it… in China the population was growing way too big so the government made it “one child per couple” and the population ceased to grow as much.
Why not do this in Africa? I mean, Africa may not have a population raging out of control but a lot of these children are born into poverty and during droughts, famine, war, etc. there is hardly enough food for all the children. Why don’t the African governments force the Chinese law on the people? And don’t say because they are democratic. I know about African democracy, it’s not the same as we in the West know it.
Less people = more food, health care, and so on for everyone else.
I mean, even in times of war women in Africa still continue to produce children even if they will be born in unstable, unsafe enviroments. Why?
Okay, not force… advise. How about that?
Would doing this not be an intelligent move to combating poverty?
Important question on Chinese law?
I have a question I need answered asap, please.
If a woman from China marries a foreigner, is it true that she isn’t able to get medical operations paid for by the governemt? If the woman is still living in China? Is it the responsibility of the husband or will the government still pay for the operation?
